Let J&M Help You “Go Green” With A PoE Lighting System
Being one of the most promising green technologies to ever come on the market, LED lighting is one of the best ways to improve energy efficiency and lower your electric bill. We are committed to providing our clients with the best possible experience from start to finish and pride ourselves on delivering high-quality work at fair rates.
What Is PoE Lighting?
Simply put, Power over Ethernet (PoE) LED lighting uses DC current from the Ethernet (Cat6) cable to power the fixture. As a result, they are more efficient than the traditional LED bulbs that screw into standard AC Edison sockets and require AC to DC conversion within each bulb housing. This conversion can result in 20% loss in power in the form of heat. As PoE uses DC power no transformer is need so there is no resulting power loss.
While the benefits of using LED lights are now well understood, the best way to power them efficiently remains debatable. Today, you can provide DC power to LED fixtures with PoE technology delivered across a single Ethernet (Cat6) cable in order to power lights and transmit data between the light and control software.
PoE Lighting Provides Many Benefits
PoE lighting combines power and communication into a single infrastructure, provides installation and operational cost savings, and is energy-efficient, leaving a small environmental footprint. Because PoE technology is not tied to a high voltage power outlet, PoE fixtures can be placed in locations almost anywhere and they can be accessed and repositioned with ease. When used with a battery backup, PoE lighting can be used as emergency lighting during a power outage!
Benefits of PoE-powered LED lighting:
- LEDs run cooler and use less energy which saves you money
- LEDs last longer with a typical life span of over 50,000 hours
- LEDs reduce heat load in a space, transferring energy to light vs. heat
- LEDs contains no toxic mercury or glass, no glass makes them more durable
- LEDs do not emit UV/IR, reducing eye strain and fatigue
